Context of Handwritten song and newspaper obituary article | Theodore Arnold was born in Guernsey, Channel Islands, and emigrated to New Zealand with his family when he was twelve years old. He was a local authority officer in the borough of North East Valley, Dunedin, New Zealand (town clerk and borough engineer) from 1884 until 1910, when Northeast Valley became part of Greater Dunedin. He then became general manager of the Dunedin Brick Works, retiring in 1921. He spent years as chairman and member of the Northeast Valley and Broad Bay schools committees. He died in 1938
